Basic Dog Grooming Tips You Need To Know - DIY - Groom your Goldendoodle at home
*Brush your Goldendoodle often
Brushing will stimulate oils in your pets skin & keep it moist & healthy. Brushing will prevent matting of your dogs coat. Brushing is a great way to show your Goldendoodle attention. Brushing eliminates dead hair in the coat that contributes to shedding. The best brush I have been using for over 26 years is : "Universal Slicker brush", It must be rigid and have touch slickers. I like the large size- curved style for the job.
Check if you did a good job brushing by using a metal comb. If your comb snags, keep brushing that area until your comb runs through smoothly.
You should brush your dog every single day for at least 20 minutes - if you do - you will have a dog that is never tangled. My favorite comb:

* Never use conditioners!
Many shampoos have hidden conditioners in them. Conditioners are very hard to rinse out and most folks apply too much. Your dog may appear good after you have bathed him, but within a couple of day it will appear dirty again and the sticky residue the conditioner leaves behind will attract dust and will make your dog look like it had no bath at all. Choose a shampoo that has no conditioners in it. FYI - Groomers use conditioners and shampoo with conditioners.
* Bathing your Goldendoodle The most important part of bathing is the RINSING. I tell my clients; " when you think you are done rinsing? Rinse for 10 more minutes and don't forget the armpits and belly area around the inner thigh". You can use the best shampoo ever but if you don't rinse 100% it will do more bad than good and will leave you with an itchy dog. Bathing a dog with knots & mats will worsen them, be sure to eliminate these before or immediately after the bath. It is best to dry the hair using a blow dryer instead of letting it air dry. Using a hair dryer will make it easier for you to brush your dog and it eliminates the possibility for the hair tangling while it dries.
Buy a professional hair dryer- human dryers are too hot and take a very log time to dry your dog.

A grooming table can be adjusted to your comfort so you won't break your back bending for one hour or more. The grooming table has a metal arm post and you can tie your dog to stand still for the duration of the grooming session. grooming your dog requires handling your dog more than anything else. You can walk your dog often to wear down nails. Clip your dog's nails on a regular basis. Groomers usually charge a little less than veterinarians to cut nails. If you believe your dog will be aggressive about getting their nails cut it is best to take them to the veterinarian. Nails should be trimmed every THREE weeks and very important to your dog's joints. Long nails will force your dog to adjust to a "new" way of walking so to avoid slippage. This will alter the joint position and could cause severe joint harm in the long run.

Ear cleaning in dogs that require haircut such as a Goldendoodle on a regular basis is extremely important. Some of those breeds are Poodle, Bichon, Schnauzer, some Terriers, Maltese etc.. Those dog breeds have hair that grows from the inside of the ear canal. This hair has to be plucked on a regular basis from deep within the ear. If allowed to remain in the ear, it will hold any moisture in there, thus preventing airing of the ear canal. This creates a moist and warm environment for bacteria and fungus to grow. Most dogs will have yeast infection in their ears as a result. Yeast infection smells really bad, is dark brown in color and if left untreated can cause a real health issue for your dog. In order to pluck the hair successfully and with minimal discomfort to your dog you must get the antiseptic ear powder, coat the hair with as much powder as possible by pressing the powder into the hair.
